Useless.

Um ... you may be impressed that you wrote a random word generator in Actionscript, but I promise you that no one else will be.

Use this random word generation as part of somthing bigger and more useful and you may get a worthwhile score. Until then, this is useless.

Retox responds:

How do you think I namde my dog "hujayama"?

This!!!

It's not useless, hell its a lot more useful then anyhting else on NG!

Average.

Pong is a pretty basic game and this rendition covers most of the basic angles.

The artistic style is pretty neat, but the sound leaves a lot to be desired. A crunching bone sound or crackling fire ambiance or something would have been nice.

I also noticed that you can sit in one spot and win. It might be better if the skull started at different random angles when it appears.

Overall, this is a neat idea ... even if Pong has been done to death already. (Ha ha)

yup. i guess i didn't really think this
one through all too much. thanks tho!

Super job on a really great, simple game.

You've done a great job creating a simple, yet very polished game. I really enjoyed it, although I did note a few issues.

One, the loading bar goes way past the loading bar border on your preloader. Then when loaded, it pops back to 100%.

Two, the "Play Again" button at the end only replays the credits. Shouldn't that send you back to the menu? Currently there is no way to play again after viewing the credits.

Finally, (and this is more of a pet peeve than a real problem) the mstery meat navigation is probably a bad call. Sure, mousing over the buttons and having what they do appear somewhere else is sorta cool. However, it detracts from the usability and makes it rather difficult to use the menu. Put some text on the buttons to help players out and keep the fade-in explanations of them.

Anyhow, great job on this game. The music graphics, animation, interativity and scripting are top notch. Well done.

AngryAxel responds:

Thanx, A wise man once said "The simplest games are the best". Well, noone said that... But it's kinda true! Yes, the loading bar goes beyond its limit, but I don't really care, because I find it funnier this way :P

And I wasn't aware of that "Play again" error, but thanx for telling me!

And I tried putting text on the buttons, but it wasn't readable. Then I tried putting the first letter on the buttons, but it just got unstylish... so, I guess people will have to spend the 15 secons it takes to read all the buttons... Thanx for all other things and the review!

Okay but not great.

More importantly than a replay button (which would also be nice), I think the game needs a little more work on the fun factor.

This game has a good enough concept, but it played a little slow. Either the code needs some optimization to run faster or you need to up the frame rate or bullet speed. I felt like I was rolling bowling balls at the people, not firing bullets.

It also got very repetitive very quickly. I think reducing the number of bullets to around 50 or so would help this. Then you could have multiple levels with fewer and fewer rounds allowed per level. Maybe you could have to shoot a certain number of people per level to advance. You could also add power ups or something to spice up the game.

Anyhow, its a good start. I hope you stick with it.

binaryflow responds:

i agree 100%.. i spent an hour or two re-writing the code tonight before submitting it so it would run fast, and because of it what you suggested is now possible.. i was thinking of buying more turrets, things like that.. thanks for the constructive review.. i think i will continue with this project..

A good solid gaming experience.

Well done. I liked this version of Space Invaders. The classic sounds were pretty nostalgic and a nice touch too.

This was definitely laggy on my PII 300, but not so much as to be unplayable. I don't suppose a "change quality" option would fix that either. I'm guessing it's more of an issue with running a lot of Actionscript than the number of clips on the screen.

Keep up the good work. Oh and let me know if you figure out how to get high score lists working on Newgrounds. My game, "Lander II - Lunar Rescue", has that problem as well. :-(

XSDSX responds:

Yes, I have no idea why Newgrounds prohibits the access of a remote server, it makes no sense. My only possible reasoning is that they have some sort of firewall that prevents this. I'm probably completely off, but I still can't see why it shouldn't work. By the way, Lunar II is and excellent game, very well done. A lot better than mine :)

Highly repetitive and really not much fun.

Although I think you may have something here once some more work is put into it, so far this flash has very little going for it.

It is incredibly repetitive, and the art is not very well done. Most of the animation needs work (unless this is the style you are really looking for, which I doubt) andt the sound needs compression big time. Why did I download 1.8MB for this when about 2-300Kb would have done the job?

Shooting through the wall is an interesting touch, but unfortunately there is no real reason to do it. Why not use that to add a boss or powerups?

Add a score/health/kill tracking or something and I think you might be able to pass this off as a "game". So far, it's barely more than a proof of concept.

Anyhow, with all that said, this may be bottom of the barrel work, but there is always room for improvement.

MY PROGRAMMING SKILLS SUCK!

Too suspicious for me folks.

Um ... did you actually draw this or are you one of "those" people. You know. The ones who copy other peoples work and do something half-assed with it.

I find it hard to believe that you did this all yourself. It looks more like you found some line art drawings of Ren and Stimpy somewhere, searched for a few sound effects, tossed them together in a never ending loop, and passed them off as your own.

If you did create the drawings yourself, you obviously have talent. Why would you not clean them up and "finish" the job? Hm.

vastcool responds:

what the fuck? fuck you you fucking peice of shit

It is naive to think you can change people. It is equally naive to think you shouldn't try.
